Here I am talking about an event that confirms this year’s growth trend; Lucca Comics & Games! The 2019 edition ended this year with a record number of 270,000 tickets sold, a result that exceeds that of the previous year. But while the Lucca event confirms its growth trend that the’has made in recent years one of the events related to comics, video games and related more followed in the world, on the other hand, its continuous growth does not justify all the huge errors, shortcomings and complete disorganization, that reserved, to the competitions Cosplay of Saturday November 2 that saw the qualification to the final of the international race ECG – European Cosplay gathering, that will take place in July 2020 in Paris, and Sunday 3 November, which saw the final of the CNC (Cosplay National Championship) managed by Luca panzieri EPICOS, as well as the normal competition that selected the first of the CNC finalists next year.
We are in November and therefore you can not expect that the time is that of a summer day, but for this reason a large organization like that of Lucca Comics & Games, should leave nothing to chance and be ready for any unexpected weather, to ensure the performance of all the Cosplay races in the program, in the utmost safety and protection of all those young people ready to compete for important competitions and who above all give the event a show of several hours completely free !!!!!
This year there have been no competitions but complete massacres, no respect for cosplayers thrown away and piled up like merchandise to be slaughtered in ridiculous spaces, almost derided and mistreated by some of the workers, forced to move between mud and water without any protection and assistance. Wasn’t it easier to handle it in a covered area? And here perhaps someone could answer, “No”, because maybe all the spaces were occupied by other events, but I wonder for a large organization full of brainiacs who study every movement, every initiative, every encounter with authors, guests, was it too complicated to manage a space for weather emergencies, and for scheduled races? And yet it’s been weeks since the weather forecast alerted us to the rains on those very days, and when I even brought up a contractor behind the stage before the Sunday race, that the weather would soon deteriorate in view of the aeronautical forecasts I had consulted, I received as an answer that it was impossible because to them the civil protection had guaranteed that there would be no important precipitation and everything would go smoothly, which did not happen.
To note that the qualifying competition ECG on Saturday was made possible only thanks to the solidarity and generosity of some guys who not competing made themselves available to all participants trying to make them less hostile the situation, and in all of this none of the organizers or assistants who were supposed to run the race were present. What is even more serious, the whole thing took place in the presence of the French organizer of the – ECG – European Cosplay gathering Benjamin Zafrany from which in my opinion the Lucca Comics & Games should take an example. In its demonstration at Japan Expo in Paris for the ECG final, every cosplayer representing every finalist nation is cared for and assisted from the first moment to the last, helped in every difficulty for the descent or climb on stage, for his performance, nothing is left to chance and Lucca Comics unfortunately knows these things but is not able to improve his faults or maybe does not want because Cosplay does not give a shit !!!!
Violent rain both on Saturday and Sunday, muddy terrain, cosplayer crammed in a single gazebo, just because you had to organize in the empty ones or catering for those working in the stage area, almost never present for the management of the boys perhaps because too busy to be simple spectators of what was happening with their comments moreover not happy, or any spaces for last minute guests. Lucca Comics and Games should learn from their mistakes and prepare for next year with a more accurate and careful organization for the Cosplay part , because with the assumptions of this year what is considered one of the biggest events in the sector does not deserve to maintain important and international competitions in its programming and I would not be surprised not if those in charge start to look around to move them to other events. And if something like this were to happen again, it would be important for all cosplayers to be completely cohesive and to refuse to participate in each of the competitions scheduled. I leave you with some images that can make understand more than a thousand words what was the real situation of the two days, hoping not to be more in the next years witness of such sad and absurd misregulation by an organization that boasts great successes from year to year!!!!!
